After a successful amateur career, Valen turned pro in 1989 and played professional golf along with such players like Mark McNulty from South Africa, Gary Player, Stewart Ginn and Cindy’s former student, Vijay Singh who he still remains good friends with. Valen won one professional event and had several top 10 finishes.
After playing professionally for several years, Valen turn to teaching the game of golf and was appointed the Head Professional at the Saujana Golf and Country Club overseeing all aspects of teaching, coaching and Academy operations. He was instrumental in creating the first Golf Academy for the Club.
Valen has studied with some of the best golf instructors in the Golf Industry. Golf professionals such as Charlie Earp who was Greg Norman’s teacher, Paul Runyun who was the top 100 coaches in the United States and was one of the most famous short game player of all time, Norman Von Nida and Kel Lewellyn who were Australia’s finest golf teachers. To further his knowledge of golf instruction, he has attended numerous teaching seminars and workshops in the States and Australia Valen continues to work very closely with many equipment manufacturers and distributors and have taught extensively in the Asian region.
Valen decided to part ways with Saujana and was instrumental in building the Asian PGA Tour in 1995 as their Tournament Director and later he became their Deputy Executive Director.
While he was with the Asian PGA, Valen was invited to be a part several international PGA TOUR organizations in the capacity of a rules official and referee in their tournaments.
Over the past few years, Valen has held executive positions such as Vice President of Golf and Business Development at the prestigious Mission Hills Golf Clubs in China as well as CEO of Berjaya Resorts and Clubs in Malaysia.
With more than 30 years of experience in the golf industry as a professional golfer, coach and at the same time engaged in golf and Professional Tour management, Valen brings to the table a more comprehensive and holistic approach to the game of golf.
In addition to coaching, Valen has conducted numerous corporate golf outings as well as been the keynote speaker at various golf seminars. He also has experience in golf ball manufacturing and course architecture and design.
Teaching golf has always Valen’s passion and he is enthusiastic to work with fellow golfers to help them develop their game further to enjoy this wonderful game call Golf.
